About us

The ELG Interface is a ‘Playing for Success’ Study Centre, which serves Primary and Secondary schools for five evenings a week. Playing for Success (PfS) is a partnership between DCSF, Local Authorities and a broad range of sports clubs to establish out of school hours study support centres at sports clubs. The centres use the learning environment and the medium of sport as a motivational tool and are all equipped with state of the art IT facilities.

The focus is on raising standards in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT amongst KS2-3 pupils. We work with year five to year eight students and follows an ‘Olympics’ based theme which develops skills in Numeracy , Literacy, ICT and Key Skills. The centre is situated above the East London Gymnastics Club in Beckton, in the London Borough of Newham. It is one of six projects in the Local Education Authority’s department of Learning Community Services; Extended Services and Children and Young People’s Services.

The selected schools are given clear guidelines for targeting pupils who would most benefit from attending the programme. In order to ensure the young people are receiving equal access we can run individually catered curriculum depending on the schools needs. The schools are given five weeks of three-hour sessions a week. The sessions are led by a qualified Teacher and assisted by Learning Mentors.
